What this site does not do

This site sets no cookies and stores nothing else in your browser. It uses no analytics, no tracking and no advertising, and there is no automated decision-making or profiling.

It embeds no content from other providers: no video players, no maps, no social media plug-ins. The fonts are served from this site's own server. When you open a page, your browser therefore connects only to the host named below.

There is no contact form and no newsletter form on this site.

Hosting and server logs

This site is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany.

When you open a page, the server automatically records technical data in log files. These can include the page requested, the date and time, the amount of data transferred, the browser and operating system, the referring page and the IP address of your device. This is necessary to deliver the pages and to keep the site secure and stable, for example to detect attacks.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and stable operation of the site). The log files are deleted by STRATO after seven days at the latest. Log files in which the IP address has been anonymised remain available to me for statistics for up to six weeks.

STRATO processes this data on my behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

Contact by e-mail or phone

You can reach me by e-mail or by phone. The e-mail link on this site opens your own mail program; nothing is sent through the website itself.

If you write or call, I process your name, your contact details and what you tell me, in order to answer your enquiry and, where it leads to working together, to prepare and carry out our agreement. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into a contract, and performance of a contract) and Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries).

I delete this data once your enquiry has been dealt with, unless retention periods under commercial or tax law require me to keep it longer.

You are not obliged to give me any personal data. Without your contact details, however, I cannot reply.

Links to other services

This site links to my pages on YouTube, Substack, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. These are plain links that open in a new tab. Loading a page on this site sends nothing to these services. Only when you click a link do you leave this site, and from then on the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.

My newsletter also runs on Substack. You sign up on Substack's own page, not on this site, and Substack processes your e-mail address under its own privacy policy.

Your rights

Under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to have it rectified or erased, to restrict its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR). An e-mail to info [at] michaelimas.com is enough.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is Der Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information), Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 22, 20459 Hamburg, Germany.
